As search
idealists, we have watched recent changes in the search
industry with great interest. Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask all
have there own search criteria,
That give Internet searchers a choice of four different major
search algorithms (Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask). It
also made us wonder: how different these major search engines
are, and
is one any one of them better than the others?
We created
the Tumble Search engine as a comparative research tool to
answer these questions. Using Tumble Search, we learned that search
engines are more different than people may think, Results typically
show the big four sharing
fewer than 4.5 of their top 10 results.
We also
found that a comparative tool like Tumble Search gives users far more
control over their searches and, in many cases, better search
results than from any single search engine.
Our hope
is that everyday internet users and advanced search users find Tumble Search an
interesting and useful tool to get better search results.
Why else
would you use Tumble Search?
You
see much more of the web. The leading search engines are
much more different than people think, and typically have fewer
than 4.5 of their top 10 results in common. By using only one
search engine, you are very likely missing relevant results.
You get a "second opinion" on the results from your
favorite site. The results that make the top 10 on
both, say, Google and Yahoo, are probably great results that
should be closer to the top of the results list... which is
exactly where Tumble Search puts them.
You save time and get better results by
searching your favorite search engine, Instead of just seeing 10
highly ranked results from one search engine, you see highly
ranked results combined on a single page.
